Bali Airport: From Facilities to Hotels Nearby

bali airport, Bali Airport: From Facilities to Hotels Nearby

Bali draws a lot of tourists with its stunning beaches, terraced rice fields, and rich culture. Before you can have fun in Bali, you must first learn about its main entrance: the Bali Airport, which is named Ngurah Rai Airport.

Ngurah Rai International Airport, formerly known as Denpasar International Airport, is the third busiest international airport in Indonesia. The facility, which was created in 1931 with a grass runway in Tuban, now serves as Bali’s main gate. Let’s learn more about Bali Airport!

Here is everything you need to know about Bali Airport

1. Bali Airport Location

Ngurah Rai International Airport (Denpasar) is 13 kilometres south of Denpasar and 2.5 kilometres from Kuta [MAPS]. The IATA code for Bali’s airport is DPS, and it is operated by PT Angkasa Pura 1. In 2017, the airport served over 22.8 million passengers. The airport can accommodate aircraft up to the size of a Boeing 747-400.

2. Things You Have to Do After Arrival

When your flight arrives at Bali Airport, proceed to the arrival terminal. This is the immigration section, where you must queue and show your passport and visa. There are two sections: one for Visa-on-Arrival (VoA) applicants and one for non-VoA applicants.

The process should take little more than 15 minutes but expect long lines when large masses of fellow passengers arrive. Once you’ve cleared immigration, go to baggage claims and have your luggage claim tag ready. Trolleys and porter services are available near the baggage claim area.

The arrival hall is located just outside the terminal. This is the meeting point and pick-up zone where the final steps of your arrival are completed.

3. Terminal at Bali Airport

In 2014, Ngurah Rai International Airport was ranked seventh in the world. Furthermore, out of 79 airports in Indonesia, it was declared the best airport in terms of airport service quality.

The airport features one domestic terminal and one international terminal, which are separated by the Festival Plaza. It simply takes ten minutes to walk from one to the other. The older building was used as the domestic terminal, while the newer, L-shaped building has the international terminal.

The new L-shaped International Terminal, with its iconic Balinese-style and wave-shaped roof, has three levels:

  • Level 1: Arrivals with five baggage carousels, customs, currency exchange, and car hire agencies
  • Level 2: Airside Departures with check-in counters and 14 gates, as well as food, drink, and retail stores. Two internet hotspots are also available.
  • Level 3: Food, drink, retail shops, and offices

Lounges are also available for you at the International Terminal. There are three lounges:

  • Premier Lounge: Open for 24 hours. Services include food, snacks, Wi-Fi, showers, and drinks.
  • Concordia Lounge: Open from 5 AM to 1.15 AM. Services include premium food, Wi-Fi, snacks, and TV, among others.
  • Garuda Indonesia Lounge: Open from 5 AM to last departure. Services include snacks, food, Wi-Fi, TV, and premium food, among others.

Bali Airport Domestic Terminal has been recently renovated and is located at the south-east International Terminal. Both terminals share the Arrivals Hall area. There are two levels for domestic terminals, namely:

  • The first level: for arrivals
  • The second level: for departures. You can use gates from 1A to 6. Along with several services available, such as currency exchange, luggage storage, food, and retail concessions,
